Weekend box office numbers are in for the last weekend of August (28-30). Last film from 20th Century Fox is finally released after company sells to Disney. Not all theaters are open in the U.S. due to never-ending Covid-19 debacle.
Fantasy film ‘The New Mutants’, a spinoff from the X-Men movies, takes top spot with an impressive debut after many doubts were raised about how a movie that has sat on the shelf for nearly three years would perform.
Last week’s winner ‘Unhinged’ drops to second place dropping more than 50% from its earnings last weekend.
‘The Personal History of David Copperfield’ arrives from England breaking into the top five while a couple of holdovers from last weekend hold on for another round.
Top 5 Box Office (weekend of August 28-30, 2020)
- ‘The New Mutants’ – $7 million – fantasy film about superheroes with a horror influence
- ‘Unhinged’ – $2.6 million – action film drops from top spot (last weekend $4.1 million)
