Late last night Donald Trump, perhaps the most controversial president of the United States, tweeted out that both he and his wife tested positive for Coronavirus and were placing themselves into quarantine. You know it’s bad when he willingly tweets out such information.
Sure enough, this afternoon word came that he was receiving experimental medication by “compassionate care” order and was suffering from a mild to moderate fever. The White House allowed the release of information regarding Marine-1 carrying Trump to Walter Reed Hospital at 5:15 eastern standard time. The helicopter remained on White House grounds for over an hour as the world waited for Donald Trump to exit on his way to the hospital.
He is now under observation at Walter Reed awaiting further developments.
This is just the preeminent example of how horrendously the United States, under Republican leadership, have handled the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. A global pandemic that has already killed more than a million people worldwide, more than 200,000 of those here in the United States of America.
Naturally, the stock markets are acting skittishly as businesses try to determine what this means for the rest of the year. This extends to movie theaters which were dealt another major blow today.
The 25th Bond film, ‘No Time to Die’ is now delayed from its November 20 release date and will now be expected in cinemas on April 2, 2021. The 007 action-adventure was the first major release to be delayed when Coronavirus swept the world earlier this year. It is taking the Easter weekend spot from ‘Fast and Furious 9’ which will vacate April 2 and move to Memorial Day weekend, May 28, 2021.
What few major films remain on the schedule of release for 2020 hang by a thread. Expect more delays to come as people continue to refuse to wear masks and social distance.
Seriously. Wear a mask, wash your hands, keep at least 6 feet apart, and don’t forget to vote November 3. If we all get along and follow the rules we may just get to enjoy the thrills of the silver screen again soon.
