Epic sci-fi action-adventure ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ was my favorite movie of 2015, it did very well at the box office and garnered 10 Academy Award nominations winning 6. I still feel it should have won Best Picture. Charlize Theron gave an iconic performance as Furiosa, a woman just as tough and hell-bent for survival as Mad Max himself.

Now a new movie is nearing the start of filming and that iconic role will be played by Anya Taylor-Joy, whose star is rising quickly in Hollywood. This year alone she starred as the title character ‘Emma’, held her own alongside Rosamund Pike in ‘Radioactive’ and can still be seen in box office hit ‘The New Mutants’. Her previous credits include ‘Thoroughbreds’, ‘Split’, ‘Glass’ and the atmospheric art-horror film ‘The Witch’ directed by Robert Eggers’, the duo are working together again on the upcoming Viking film ‘The Northman’.

Anya Taylor-Joy stars in ‘Emma’ adapted from the Jane Austen novel.

‘Furiosa’ will tell the story of how the title character came to be the heroic road warrior we see in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’. We can probably expect a story that involves how she got that robotic arm.

George Miller, creator of the Mad Max franchise, is set to write and direct as well as produce. The other cast announced for the film are Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the Marvel movies, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who recently won an Emmy for his work on the HBO series ‘Watchmen’.

Filming will probably take place in Australia unless circumstances force otherwise, much like the flooding in Australia that forced ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ to film some in Namibia. As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to disrupt life around the world it will be a tough road ahead.
