The Game Awards have been given out and the big winner this year is ‘The Last of Us Part II’ from Naughty Dog/SIE winning 7 of the 10 awards it was nominated for.
There was a pre-show panel hosted by producer Geoff Keighley talking with Lisa Su (CEO of AMD), Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox) and Laura Miele (Chief Studios Officer at EA). The conversation revolved mostly around the the next generation of gaming and cloud technology.
The pre-show, hosted by Sydnee Goodman, featured performances by Lynn featuring the Persona Music Band live from Tokyo, Japan as well as a performance by OFK.
The awards show felt a bit overlong, approximately three hours, but it did feature what seemed like a literal ton of world premiere game trailers and announcements, including a new ‘Evil Dead’, ‘Oddworld’, ‘Scavengers’, ‘Myst VR’, and a ‘Fall Guys’ Christmas addition.
The best highlight of the ceremony came when the Swedish Chef from the Muppets mistakenly thought he had won the award as the announcement for the upcoming game ‘Overcooked: All You Can Eat’ was revealed. Other highlights included the London Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Lorne Balfe, performed a medley from the Mario Bros. games franchise live from Abbey Road Studios. There was also a trailer reveal for a new ‘Ark: The Animated Series’ featuring Russell Crowe and Vin Diesel. Eddie Vedder performed his song from ‘The Last of Us Part II’.
