Popular toy company Mattel is looking to exploit their product for the big screen in hopes of competing with rival toymaker Hasbro, whose films based on popular toy lines include the ‘Transformers’ and ‘G.I. Joe’ franchises as well as ‘Battleship’.

The card game ‘Uno’, created in 1971 at a Cincinnati barbershop, is now being developed into a feature film.

‘Uno’ is expected to be about a heist carried out in Atlanta’s hip hop music scene. Rapper Lil Yachty is producing and may star. Lil Yachty’s albums include “Summer Songs” and “Lil Boat”.

The comedy heist caper is being written by Marcy Kelly. Mattel Films will oversee the project with executive producer Robbie Brenner and producer Kevin McKeon. Quality Films is partnering with Mattel Films with Kevin Lee, Brian Sher and Pierre Thomas producing.

‘Uno’ is one of several projects Mattel Films is hoping to launch based on their products. A ‘Masters of the Universe’ feature is still in early pre-production and an animated ‘Masters of the Universe’ series is set for Netflix coming in early 2022.
