The Annie Awards were given out Friday night in a virtual ceremony. The frontrunner for Oscars in both Animated Feature and Music Score categories, ‘Soul’, took the top prize at the Annie’s along with the prize for Music. ‘Wolfwalkers’ was also a major force winning almost as many Annie’s as ‘Soul’. The Pixar film won a total of 7 Annie’s whereas ‘Wolfwalkers’ took home 5.
Juried Awards were also presented honoring achievements and contributions to animation. Winsor McCay Award recipients selected by the ASIFA-Hollywood Board of Directors for their exemplary industry careers:
Willie Ito, Sue Nichols and Bruce Smith.
The June Foray Award was presented to Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi.
The Ub lwerks Award was presented to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine.
The Special Achievement Award was presented to “Howard,” a 2018 American documentary film written and directed by Don Hahn about the life of songwriter Howard Ashman.
