Never underestimate a stupid stunt.
Making a career of stupid stunts, Johnny Knoxville and crew has once again displayed more than their popularity in the number one film in theaters over the weekend, ‘Jackass Forever’. With a weekend haul of $23.2 million, it is already in the black on a budget of $10 million. It’s $23.2 million take is also more than double the weekend’s second place film, Roland Emmerich’s science fiction disaster flick ‘Moonfall’, starring Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson.
‘Moonfall’ debuted with a disastrous $9.9 million. The budget for Roland Emmerich’s latest is $140 million so the filmmakers are likely hoping for the Moon to crash into the Earth before having to tell their investors there’s no return on their investment.
As for the phenomenal ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, the web-slinger along with the last weekend’s other top three films now round out the bottom three films for this Weekend Box Office Top 5.
‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ scraped up $9.5 million as the fantasy film becomes the sixth highest grossing film of all time with $1.6 billion from theaters. This pretty much proves that the so-called death of theaters has been greatly exaggerated when one film alone can make far over $1 billion, when combined with the grosses of other movies the theatrical business is still viable and lively.
Horror favorite ‘Scream’ and animated hit ‘Sing 2’ round out the Weekend Box Office Top 5 raking in $4.8 million and $4.2 million respectively.
Next weekend the box office should be shaken up real-well as the latest adaptation of Agatha Christies mystery classic, ‘Death on the Nile’, goes up against Liam Neeson’s star vehicle actioner, ‘Blacklight’, as the romantic comedy brings in some of the genre’s heavy hitters in hopes of bringing the genre back to prominence as Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson star in ‘Marry Me’.
As this weekend shows audiences are starting to seek out quality from a variety of genres and next weekend should be no exception as audiences will have plenty to choose from.

- ‘Jackass Forever’ – $23.2 million – comedy (debut)
