Summer days are slowing down at the box office as ‘Bullet Train’ stays put in the top spot. The action flick starring Brad Pitt didn’t face any competition over the weekend allowing it to stay securely at number 1.
There was one interesting thing of note on an otherwise lazy summer’s box office.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’, the phenomenal sequel starring Tom Cruise, marked a return to the Weekend Box Office Top 5 after being absent the previous weekend. While it didn’t pose a threat of overtaking ‘Bullet Train’ it did manage to fly all the way up to second place ahead of the leftovers. Between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise star power really does matter at the box office.
Animated comic book movie ‘DC League of Super-Pets’ rolled over into third. Featuring the voices of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart the film took in $7 million. That is just under the $7.1 million ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ earned.
That was close, but not the closest battle at the box office.
Marvel fantasy ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ fought it out with Jordan Peele’s sci-fi thriller ‘Nope’ for the final two spots on the Weekend Box Office Top 5. With approximately $10 thousand more ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ just barely manages to hammer out a lead ahead of ‘Nope’.
This coming weekend is also expected to be slow but not without some interest. It will feature a match-up of star power against animation as the thriller ‘Beast’ starring Idris Elba goes up against popular anime ‘Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero’.
