Disney Hedges Bet with China Theaters

After announcing just days ago that the $200 million historical action adventure film will be bypassing theaters in the United States and heading straight to streaming on Disney+ the biggest studio in Hollywood won’t be following a similar release strategy in China.

Instead ‘Mulan’ will release in theaters in China approximately the same day subscribers to the streaming service will be able to access it for an additional $30.

China has reopened most theaters in the country since going on lockdown back in January due to Covid-19. As overseas markets continue to monitor controlled re-openings the United States continuously falls behind because of inept handling of the ongoing health crisis.

‘Mulan’, the live action remake of the popular 1990’s animated feature, was originally scheduled to release in the U.S. back in March. It is now set for September 4 on Disney+.
