The upcoming movie ‘The Flash’ is beginning to take shape. New casting announcements ahead of this weekend’s DC Fandome event bring light to one of the silver screen’s favorite Dark Knights returning.

Michael Keaton has been announced to be returning to the iconic role that launched a phenomena in 1989. He will be appearing in the role of Bruce Wayne/The Batman in the soon to be filming DC film ‘The Flash’. Michael Keaton played the role previously in 1989’s ‘Batman’ and its 1992 sequel ‘Batman Returns’, both directed by Tim Burton.

He’s not the only Batman to come back to the Batcave.

Ben Affleck is also slated to return as Bruce Wayne/The Batman in the same film. He has previously played the role in 2016’s ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ reprising it in 2017’s ‘Justice League’. Ben Affleck was originally set to star and direct in a stand-alone Batman film before dropping out of the role. Now, after word of the Zack Snyder cut of ‘Justice League’ getting reshoots, it appears he is back under the hood. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson is portraying Bruce Wayne/The Batman in a stand-alone film that will resume filming in the U.K. this September.

‘The Flash’ is heavily rumored to be an adaptation of the comic book storyline ‘Flashpoint’, which was made into an animated feature a few years back. The storyline featured the Flash traversing alternate timelines within the DC universe. This would explain how two very well known actors can play the same iconic role in one movie.

Ezra Miller is expected to reprise his role as Barry Allen/The Flash in the upcoming feature. He previously played the character in ‘Justice League’ with cameos in ‘Batman v. Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’.

Andy Muschietti is nearing a deal to direct coming off the success of the Stephen King horror films ‘It’ and ‘It: Chapter Two’. Christina Hodson is writing the screenplay after her success with ‘Birds of Prey’ and ‘Bumblebee’.

‘The Flash’ is scheduled for theatrical release on June 3, 2022.
