The drama starring Frances McDormand and David Strathairn tells the story of a woman who loses everything during the Great Recession ending up living in a van traveling the western United States. Directed by Chloe Zhao, whose next directorial effort is Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’, ‘Nomadland’ continues America’s winning streak for the top prize at the annual film festival whose previous winners include 2019’s ‘Joker’ and 2018’s ‘Roma’.
A hybrid event, the first real physical film festival of importance held since the global Covid-19 pandemic shut everything down, there was plenty of social distancing and mask wearing on the red carpets.
