Alchemy Immersive and Oculus have partnered to produce a continuation of David Attenborough’s 2013 nature documentary. ‘Micro Monsters with David Attenborough’ is a new VR experience that gives you the lowdown on the bug life.
Using a combination of live action closeups and computer graphics the viewer will be able to witness up close the many wonders of the insect world. A scorpion battling a centipede. A butterfly emerging from a cocoon. A trapdoor spider eagerly awaiting a snack.
Filming live action VR closeups in 8k 3-D at 60 frames per second. Utilizing 3-D stereoscopic camera rigs with 180 degree live action capture alongside VFX compositing techniques. This five part immersive series is narrated by the world’s foremost nature narrator, David Attenborough.
‘Micro Monsters with David Attenborough’ is available exclusively on Oculus TV, in 8k on Oculus Quest 2 and in 5k on Quest.
To learn more, I encourage you to read an excellent interview on the technical process of making the virtual reality experience with the director and creative lead for Alchemy Immersive, Elliot Graves, and Oculus Immersive Media lead, Eric Cheng. The interview appears on the webpage for Oculus found here.
