Stuntman Rémy Julienne, known for his work on action-adventure films from the 1960’s to the early 2010’s, passed away January 21 after being hospitalized with Covid-19 in Montargis, Loiret, France.

Born April 17, 1930 in Cepoy, Loiret, France Julienne started his career in the motocross sport when he was recruited by a stunt company to work on the motorcycle sequences of the pulp inspired ‘Fantomas’ in 1964.

Sticking with stunt work he would go on to create the Mini-Cooper stunts forthe 1969 Michael Caine action comedy, ‘The Italian Job’.

Working constantly through the 1970’s his work enhanced several of Europe’s action films from ‘Summertime Killer’ starring Christopher Mitchum, Karl Malden and Olivia Hussey in 1972 to the 1975 Jean-Paul Belmondo thriller, ‘The Night Caller’ and on to the 1979 Terence Hill/Bud Spencer comedy ‘I’m for the Hippopotamus’.

In 1981 he worked on one of Disney’s early forays into the world of costumed superheroes, ‘Condorman’ starring Michael Crawford and Oliver Reed.

That same year he applied his skills to the 007 film ‘For Your Eyes Only’, driving the yellow Citroen through the olive orchard. He continued with the 007 franchise creating stunts for ‘Octopussy’, ‘A View to a Kill’, ‘The Living Daylights’, the famous truck tilting chase in ‘Licence to Kill’ and ‘GoldenEye’.

In 1991 he worked with the world’s most famous stuntman/actor Jackie Chan on the action-adventure ‘Operation Condor’. And in 1997 Julienne worked on Tsui Hark’s first English language film, ‘Double Team’ starring Jean-Claude van Damme, Dennis Rodman and Mickey Rourke.

As his career wound down he worked on stunts for the 2006 Ron Howard directed ‘The Da Vinci Code’ starring Tom Hanks.

  1. Really enjoyed hearing about stuntman Remy Julienne’s career. Always loved those mini-coopers in 1969 The Italian Job. My favorite 007 scene is Roger Moore headed downhill through the olive grove. Guess I owe all that to Remy’s art and daring.
