After nearly six years since it was originally announced as in development, the feature film adaptation of ‘In the Lost Lands’, based on a short story by ‘Game of Thrones’ creator, George R.R. Martin, is gearing up to film.
Director Paul W.S. Anderson, best known for video game adaptations from the recent hit ‘Monster Hunter’ and the popular ‘Resident Evil’ franchise, will be guiding the project with frequent collaborator Milla Jovovich set to star as a sorceress on a quest through a mythical land of monsters. Dave Bautista, best known for his role as Drax in the MCU ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films, is signed on to play a wanderer hired to guide the sorceress ‘In the Lost Lands’.
Paul W.S. Anderson, Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista are also producing the film together with other producers Jeremy Bolt and Jonathan Meisner.
This project comes as the genre of fantasy sword and sandal films are building up in Hollywood. Another George R.R. Martin adaptation at HBO Max next year, the series ‘House of the Dragon’ which is a prequel series to the phenomenal ‘Game of Thrones’, is going up against the Amazon original series ‘The Lord of the Rings’, based on the hit franchise that made Hollywood rethink the genre. Of course, there is also the upcoming ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ feature film starring Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez in the works.
Fans of fantasy have a lot to look forward to in the year to come.
