The annual celebration of the best in animation, the Annie Awards, have announced the nominees for the upcoming awards show. This year the awards ceremony will be virtual on April 16 at 7pm PST.
Pixar and DreamWorks dominate the top category with two nominations each, with Netflix presenting a BRON Animation Production to round out the category. Pixar has both ‘Soul’ and ‘Onward’ competing against DreamWorks Animation’s ‘The Croods: A New Age’ and ‘Trolls World Tour’. BRON Animation Productions competes with ‘The Willoughbys’.
The Winsor McCay Award will be awarded to Willie Ito, Sue Nichols and Bruce Smith.
The June Foray Award will be awarded to Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi.
The Ub Iwerks Award will be awarded to Epic Games for their Unreal Engine.
The Special Achievement Award will be given to “Howard”, a documentary about song writer Howard Ashman, written and directed by Don Hahn.
