The Emmy Awards have been given out in ceremony hosted by Cedric the Entertainer. Televised on CBS, the event was promoted as being a limited gathering to be held outdoors but as viewer tuned in they found the entirety of the event to be held inside a ballroom with celebrities huddled around tables that were so close together it left little room to pass by to get up to the stage. Some of the attendees, mostly nominees for Netflix series ‘The Crown’, participated via satellite uplink live from London where the time difference kept attendees up well past 4 am.
The big winners for the night were not the traditional broadcast networks who barely scraped by with any wins, no, the big winners were the streamers Netflix and AppleTV+ whose shows ‘The Crown’, ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ and ‘Ted Lasso’ practically dominated the night with only HBO’s ‘Mare of Easttown’ making a strong showing amongst the victors.
