‘Uncharted’ Stays Top of Weekend Box Office Top 5

Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg in 'Uncharted'

It was the weekend that almost wasn’t.

Global powers decided to go ape-shit and frighten the fuck out of everyone, and only today does there seem to be any movement back towards peace. Hopefully the powers that be will calm everything down. It would be much better if world leaders would talk to each other about their problems instead of resorting to violence.

Anyway, this is supposed to be about movies so let’s get back on track while we all hope that Putin figures his shit out without hurting anymore people.

Normally I try not to use such language on here as I feel that it is lazy writing. Given the exceptional nature of the times today I made an exception too. Now, back to the box office.

Tom Holland is beginning to break from his role as the popular Spider-Man as his latest film ‘Uncharted’ continues its winning streak in theaters. Starring alongside Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Banderas, the treasure-hunting film seems to have found gold at number one for a second weekend.

Channing Tatum’s directorial debut ‘Dog’ stays put sitting at number two. The film seems to be going over well for audiences and confirms Tatum’s star power as an actor with bonafide box office appeal. In three weeks, he may be back near the top of the box office with the adventure-comedy ‘The Lost City’ starring alongside Sandra Bullock and Daniel Radcliffe.

Tom Holland continues to stick in theaters as ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ stays on the big screen for a third month. The Marvel superhero flick from Sony is among the biggest box office winners in history.

‘Death on the Nile’, the latest Agatha Christie adaptation from director-star Kenneth Branagh, is docked at fourth place on the Weekend Box Office Top 5. A star-studded sequel to equally star-studded 2017’s ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ is likely to drop out of the Weekend Box Office Top 5 next week.

In fifth place is the rambunctious comedy ‘Jackass Forever’. Aside from being a title that could describe a world leader, (sorry, getting back on track), the fourth installment of absurd antics from Johnny Knoxville and crew not only made a profit it also received praise from many critics touting it as perhaps the best in the franchise. As the crew of shenanigan lovers age, it might be the last of the ‘Jackass’ franchise.

Next weekend will see the hotly-anticipated release of ‘The Batman’ starring Robert Pattinson in his first outing in the cape-and-cowl. The comic book adventure also stars Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler and Colin Farrell as Penguin. It may not ultimately enjoy the large box office numbers of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, but is is safe to say it will dominate the next two weekends at least.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE TOP 5 (February 25-27, 2022)

  1. ‘Uncharted’ – $23.3 million – action-adventure (drop $28 million, 55% down)
  2. ‘Dog’ – $10.1 million – comedy (drop $7.3 million, 42% down)
  3. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ – $5.8 million – fantasy (drop $3.4 million, 37% down)

  5. ‘Jackass Forever’ – $3.2 million – comedy (drop $2.7 million, 46% down)
