Are you tired of watching movies and wishing you could be a part of the action? You’re in luck because VR is bringing that action to audiences at this years Venice Film Festival.

The Venice Film Festival is going to be the first of the major film fests to hold a physical event this year from September 2 – 12. There will be a virtual supplement to the activities and that is appropriately where the VR lineup will play.

A total of 44 VR experiences are scheduled with 31 in competition. All major players are expected to appear from the U.S., Canada, France, Japan, Denmark, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Peru and China.

Two of the biggest attractions in the VR lineup include Daisy Ridley and Jon Favreau.

Daisy Ridley will be headlining the VR interactive fantasy ‘Baba Yaga’. Created by Baobab Studios the VR short will take you into the world of that famed witch from folklore on a quest to save your village.

‘Gnomes and Goblins’ is a VR interactive fantasy helmed by Jon Favreau and runs a feature length 120 minutes.

The Venice Film Festival will make its Venice VR Expanded lineup available on Facebook’s Oculus, VRRoom, VRChat and HTC Viveport for those who purchase festival passes.

With the world in the midst of a cinematic winter this burgeoning world of VR interactive cinema may be the next big thing.

UPDATE: August 26, 2020 – ‘Baba Yaga’ starring Daisy Ridley has announced that Kate Winslet, Jennifer Hudson and Hollywood legend Glenn Close have been added to the cast.
