In its second weekend the Denzel Washington, Rami Malek mystery ‘The Little Things’ with recent Golden Globe and SAG nominee Jared Leto, maintains the number one spot with the expected second weekend decline.

The animated hit ‘The Croods: A New Age’, starring Emma Stone and nominated for a Golden Globe last week, stays steady in second place for a third consecutive weekend after rising from third place nearly a month ago. The success of ‘The Croods: A New Age’, currently in its eleventh week at the box office, is the best indicator that audiences will choose theaters to enjoy quality films over staying at home. The animated feature has been available for streaming since before Christmas.

Liam Neeson’s action flick ‘The Marksman’, in its fourth week, overtakes a falling ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, in its seventh week, for third place despite the fantasy comic book feature’s Golden Globe nomination for stunt ensemble.

The video game adaptation ‘Monster Hunter’ holds on to round out the Weekend Box Office Top 5 after eight weeks of release.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE TOP 5 (February 5-7, 2021)

  1. ‘The Little Things’ – $2.1 million – mystery (dropping $2.6 million, 55% decline)
  2. ‘The Croods: A New Age’ – $1.8 million – animated (no change)
  3. ‘The Marksman’ – $1 million – action-adventure (dropping $300k, 23% decline)
  4. ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ – $905k – fantasy (dropping $395k, 30% decline)
  5. ‘Monster Hunter’ – $585k – fantasy (dropping $150k, 20% decline)

The total for the Weekend Box Office Top 5 comes to $6.39 million. A decline of $3.41 million, or 35%, from last weekends total of $9.8 million.

The coming weeks will see releases of award hopefuls, from the recent Golden Globe nominated ‘French Exit’, ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’, ‘The Mauritanian’ and Venice Film Festival winner ‘Nomadland’.

Some of these titles will receive day-and-date releases. The most likely to take the top spot in coming weeks will be ‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ and ‘Nomadland’, though there will be the release of the live action/animated hybrid ‘Tom and Jerry’ starring Chloe Grace Moretz to contend with.
